Instructions

  1. Preheat grill or grill pan to medium-high heat.

  3. Brush the portobello mushroom caps with olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Grill for 5-7 minutes per side, until tender.
  4. During the last 2 minutes of grilling, brush the mushroom caps with the homemade BBQ sauce.
  5. Toast the whole wheat buns on the grill for 1-2 minutes.
  6. Assemble the burgers: Place a grilled portobello mushroom cap on each bun and top with lettuce, red onion, and avocado slices.
